Shiny, happy, sunny gardeners

The glee of gardening at Room to Be

These days our Green Team ping backwards and forwards between the community centre raised beds and the mini plot where we are carving out a growing patch to sow seeds.

So far we have planted primarily alliums: leeks, garlic and onions. Some potatoes are in containers. We have unearthed already existing strawberries and herbs such as rosemary, bay, thyme, dill and two monstrous fennels. We also unearthed an ant-hill... then quickly re-earthed it with profusive apologies.

Our sessions are as much about connection as it is about gardening. It is good to be able to come together and chat about what is concerning us at the moment, or share stories about our week. It is equally good to be able to come here and quietly do a task without speaking at all - you are still in company. It is still connection. This is community.
