One Pager Update - Vol. 17 Summer Edition

One page simply isn't enough to showcase everything we're up to in a month, but I dare not stray and make it a lengthy two pages - not in this modern age when everything must be kept short and snappy! Instead, I will give more detail here in the blog, and you can read it if you have time. Do you have time?
PS: I didn't have much time myself these past few weeks, which is why this AUGUST update is reaching you at the end of September.
The People's Emergency Briefing at the DCA - Room to Be members came together to watch this important briefing about the climate emergency and its call to action. Room to Be will be looking at how to build a more robust climate framework into the community group's mission and vision and would be very happy to collaborate on projects to this end. We are looking at how best to enable a well informed, resilient community that is prepared for the years ahead and offers mutual aid.
Lughnasadh - This was a special event for us, as Lughnasadh was the first of our Seasonal Arts Programme events last year, so SAP has done a full seasonal cycle! We had our usual pot luck lunch, with some exceptional offerings on the table; we shared some history of the festival and the traditions around it; and for our activity we did a mindful walk around the garden to cut a flower bouquet which we took home to dry.
Everybody to Kenmure Street - A screening put on by Dundee Changemakers at CANVAS as part of their Films for Change series. We had a good turn out of Room to Be members attending to watch the documentary about the spontaneous protest and community resistance that prevented the deportation of a Glasgow citizen.
Chill/Create - We jollied along to Cake or Dice for our creative catch-up over a coffee and cake. Everyone brought along their own individual creative projects.
2 x Green Team sessions - One at Boomerang, painting our planters; the other at Dawson, planning a prairie.
TCB: The Toni Cade Bambara School of Organising - A screening put on by Take One Film Action about the super inspiring cultural worker, activist and writer Toni Cade Bambara. It has prompted us to think about what a solidarity movement in Dundee could look like and how to use our art making and writing as a radical act of resistance. Papermaking with Forgan Arts Edge School - this is by no means a Room to Be event, but two of our members participated and will be very keen to take the skills they've learned to Room to Be. Edge School is a peer-to-peer learning programme for LGBTQIA+ creatives. To find out more: https://www.forganartscentre.co.uk/edge-school/
And despite the 'new' month being almost entirely over, here is / was our timetable for September. I look forward to telling you all about it in the next update... which may also be late.
