Hammers and hail stones: the Boomerang Build begins

It has been slow progress for this project to come to fruition. The pitch for our Changemakers funding to build a seating and planting area for Boomerang community centre was won last summer, but it has taken a long time to gather and process our repurposed wood - helped along by Dundee Makerspace who gave us time, tools and the use of their facilities and storage. Thank you to all the Room to Be'ers who helped with this stage, cutting and processing wood or clearing space in the Makerspace yard.
The project was further accelerated when new members Ciara and Pip joined Room to Be at the beginning of this year, both super keen to get stuck in to the DIY build. Ciara's technical drawing skills and background in architectural design certainly helped finesse the construction stages; and Pip's willingness to put in time, hard graft and transporting materials has made what felt like impossible logistics an absolute breeze.
On Easter weekend we finally started putting our planters together. A big shout out for Sam and Felix, both new on the Room to Be scene, but merrily giving up their Sunday to knuckle down with screws, drills and timber for what was - in the end - a full working day. Come rain or shine or hail stones, we were determined to get things done.

And when the hail did come hammering down, we were undeterred and moved inside.
This is a project of many stages and we're keen to get as many members involved as possible. If chopping wood and drills and screws don't do it for you, painting and decorating or planting up or perhaps building our insect house might.
