Birds and Bards! And a tiny golden spade...

What better way to spend a winter weekend than with a Rabbie Burns meets RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch mash-up? Pens and binos at the ready and a cup of tea with a stack of poetry books waiting for us after an hour of being lashed with an arctic wind. Believe it or not, we did see some birds! They looked hardier than us, truth be told. A couple of magpies, some crows, a wood pigeon you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. We have a member who owns an RSPB hat, so he was tasked to take the notes.
Lindsey from the RSPB joined us at Boomerang to work on the new wildlife planting design. Impressively, everyone got involved despite the option to stay in the warmth of the cosy café. We got stuck in with transplanting plants from one bed to another and with many hands, the task was completed in no time. Emile was extremely pleased with his tiny golden spade.
